Beyond Guibert... Beautiful
Today Pastor Paul took on us a journey beyond the village of Guibert to experience a lot more of Haiti. Our journey began driving through the area now called Canaan. This place now houses hundreds of thousands of displaced families from the earthquake. It is a land of hope and promise for these families but they are starting out at ground level. We then stopped at the memorial honoring the lives of the victims from the 2010 disaster. Our goal was to reach the village of Drouin (pronounced Dwaa). This rice farming village where Pastor Paul first held a crusade 23 years ago. Back then there were 14 witch doctors and today there is one in the community, which we met... playing dominoes. Hope for the Hungry supported the building of the school in Drouin two years ago and today we were honored to see these children learning, smiling and singing. On our way back from Drouin we stopped off at the beach and lunch at a beautiful hotel resort. Our final stop was a mango factory who exports thousands of mangoes to the USA and Canada every year and employees hundreds of Haitians. Haiti is a really beautiful country and our lunch was a pleasant reminder of the beauty of Haiti overlooking the clear blue ocean water. As Americans, we often fail to see the beauty and progress made in Haiti. But over the last week, we have heard and seen that Christ is alive in Haiti and it is beautiful. Please continue to pray, support and join our efforts here in Haiti. Much has been done over the last 30 years, and there is still much to do over the next thirty years.
